The alarming state of pollution in our country is a stark reminder of the deep-rooted problems we face. At the heart of this crisis lies the attitude and behavior of the majority of citizens. Our civic sense is reflected in our haphazard waste management practices, overconsumption, and the rampant use of plastics. We use too much plastic and waste a lot of things. Furthermore, corruption within our governance bodies has exacerbated the issue. The green tribunal departments, entrusted with protecting the environment, have become mere rubber-stamping authorities, prioritising capitalist interests over environmental concerns. The alarming rate of mass deforestation, sanctioned under the guise of development, is a grim testament to this. Thirdly, the role of greedy capitalists cannot be overlooked. The consequences of pollution, from natural disasters due to climate change to severe health issues, are well-documented. Yet, the relentless pursuit of profit continues to drive environmental degradation. It is disheartening to note that only a few voices are raised against this destructive trend.
