Construction industry body holds skilling programme in waterproofing

The Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC) conducted a 3-day training and certification course for waterproofing professionals from Goa aimed at advancing their skills and launch startups in the field.

The professionals were provided multiple modules to upskill in the complex field of structural waterproofing.

PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral inaugurated the programme which was held in association with the Institute for International Talent Development, Private Limited (IITD) at the latter's training facility at Kundaim Industrial Estate.

Dr P R Swarup, Director General, CIDC and Engineer Samir Surlaker, Director, IITD besides Himanshu Kapadia, President, CCMA oversaw the programme encouraging the trainees to be interactive and attentive.

Sunny Surlaker, who conceptualized the programme, was the resource person for the technical sessions which covered modern construction chemicals and techniques for waterproofing, concrete repairs, concrete protection, injection grouting and concrete technology. 

It covered theory as well as practical demonstrations and over 50 professionals from across the country participated.

A nationally recognized Certification of Competency, conferred by the Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC), an apex body in the construction industry and set up by the Niti Aayog were on offer.

The various segments in the training programme were covered by field experts, including Samir Surlaker.

Robert D’Souza and Rajesh Prabhu discussed practical and challenging case studies in injection grouting and joints. 

Prasad Bhobe and Shounak Vaigankar conducted the practical demonstrations for using admixtures, repair systems, waterproofing and injection grouting, while Sujay Surlaker, covered costing and estimation of various product systems. 

An International Trainer Engineer Paulo Tsingos, an expert geotechnical engineer and veteran in injection technologies from Germany, trained the participants in injection grouting. 

All the participants were granted a joint CIDC-IITD certification which places them in CIDC’s national database, thus improving their employability. These certifications are also expected to be made mandatory in tenders and contracts of known private and public organizations such as CPWD, PWD, MES among others.
