With the rise of thefts in bank ATMs, the bank officials in Bardez were instructed to station a security guard at the ATM kiosks for the security of the ATMs and safety of the public who visit the bank ATMs.
The bank officials were also asked to keep a tab of the CCTV cameras installed at the ATM kiosks on a daily basis so that any suspicious activities around the ATMs could help in taking timely action.
The Mapusa Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Jivba Dalvi held a meeting with bank officials under the jurisdiction of Mapusa and surrounding areas at the Mapusa Police Station to discuss the security aspect of bank ATMs.
Officials of 24 banks were present for the meeting.
Dalvi impressed on the bank officials the need to increase security around the ATMs so that people can feel safe when they come to withdraw or deposit cash.
He pointed out that very few bank ATM kiosks in the jurisdiction of Mapusa sub-division stationed security guards while most did not have the facility.
The SDPO also issued a letter to banks to engage the service of security guards at the bank ATMs.
Dalvi also appealed to bank officials to maintain a register in all the ATM kiosks so that police beat staff can make their visit entry on the register every night during patrolling.
Considering the importance of social media, Dalvi also created a WhatsApp group of all bank officials and the police so that they could keep in touch on crucial matters.
The bank officials were requested to give their feedback on the WhatsApp group regarding the visit of beat staff to maintain effective patrolling.
The Mapusa SDPO also requested all the bank officials to go through the footage of CCTV cameras around the ATM kiosks at night time on a daily basis to observe any suspicious activities around the ATM so that timely action can be taken.
The SDPO informed that the meeting was held on the instructions of DGP Jaspal Sing (IPS), IGP Omvir Singh (IPS) and SP, North Nidhin Valsan (IPS).
