The river that flows in Mandrem should be saved and we are committed to this cause, said Sarpanch Adv Amit Sawant, pointing out at encroachments done on the river banks. He said that the Gram Panchayat would do everything to save this river and take stern action against the illegal encroachments. He also appealed to the people to come together and discuss the issue on January 26, so that further action could be taken for conservation and preservation of this river.
Agnel Fernandes pointed out through a written question that the river has been filled illegally with soil at Junas wada Mandrem and asked if panchanama has been done, to which the Sarpanch said that it would be done on January 23 evening. The other issues discussed in the meeting were tree cutting in Amrapali hill. Shankar Govekar stated that Amrapali project will endanger the village, as it would restrain the water sources, and invite drought like situation.
Sudesh Sawant suggested that the Panchayat should appoint a permanent advocate to save money on court issues.
Panchayat secretary read out the minutes of the previous meeting. Panch members present for the meeting were Kiran Sawant, Prashant Naik, Minguel Fernandes and Rajesh Mandrekar.
