CPI, AITUC condemn US attack on Venezuela

PANAJI

The Goa State Committee of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) has condemned the criminal military and political aggression launched by the United States of America against the sovereign Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The reported capture and detention of President Nicolás Maduro is nothing short of an imperialist coup, executed in naked violation of international law, the UN Charter, and the democratic will of the Venezuelan people. This is not an act of “defending democracy.”  This is colonial-capitalist treachery in its most brazen form, says a CPI/AITUC press release.

The United States has once again revealed itself as a rogue imperial power, incapable of coexisting with independent nations that refuse to surrender their sovereign right to resources and genuflect before global finance capital. Venezuela’s crime is not dictatorship; its crime is sovereignty. Its crime is insisting that its vast oil reserves, gas, gold, and rare earth minerals belong to its people”not to the Wall Street, Pentagon contractors, and multinational corporations.

Unable to win Venezuela through elections, diplomacy, or international consent, US imperialism has reverted to its oldest method: regime change by coercion, enforced through sanctions, economic strangulation, military intimidation, and now direct intervention.

The Communist Party of India (Goa) demands immediate and unconditional release of President Nicolás Maduro and all political detainees held as a result of US intervention. It also calls fo complete withdrawal of US military, intelligence, and proxy forces from Venezuelan territory and an end to all economic sanctions, which constitute collective punishment of the Venezuelan working class.
