Defacement case: Pernem police issue summons to Kejriwal

PANAJI

Goa Police have issued summons to Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chief Arvind Kejriwal in connection with a probe into the defacement of property case against the leader of his party.

The summons under Section 41-A CrPC followed hours after AAP Goa leader Amit Palyekar failed to depose before the Pernem police on Thursday.

As per the notice, Kejriwal is asked to report to the police station at 11 am on April 27. “During the investigation of a case about the defacement of property, it is revealed that there are reasonable grounds to question you to ascertain facts and circumstances from you in relation (connection) to the present investigation,” the notice said, informing about his deposition date, time and the PS.

Earlier, Palyekar “ an advocate by profession “ was asked to report to the police station but he expressed his inability citing overseas travel.

The Goa police had registered 12 First Information Reports (FIRs) against AAP and one against the Trinamool Congress under The Goa Prevention of Defacement of Property Act as they displayed banners and hoardings in public places and government structures in the run-up to the February 2022 elections.

The Public Works Department had then written to the district collectors seeking appropriate action for the offense.
