With narrow coastal lanes set to experience traffic congestion during this festive season, Goa Police assured that they have enough staff to control the flow of vehicles.
"We have sufficient staff for normal/routine days, but for extraordinary events, we source personnel from other units (of Goa Police). Trainee recruits are also posted on duty," Director General of Police Jaspal Singh said on the sidelines of the Raising Day function held at police headquarters on Wednesday.
Around 900 recruits undergoing training at the Police Training School at Valpoi and Delhi Police Training Academy, were recently deployed for the National Games in different parts of the State in October-November.
Asked about security arrangements during this period when the footfalls rise, the DGP claimed that the department is duty bound to ensure strict security.
"When dealing with a large crowd, it is the our responsibility to ensure (security) arrangements (are in place) for orderly movement, prevent stampedes, and thwart any nuisances caused by antisocial elements," he replied.
The State has already been witnessing huge number of visitors with long Christmas weekend ensuing and the upcoming New Year festivity. Several parties are also lined up in the coastal belt which are expected to draw huge crowd globally.
