Director General of Police Jaspal Singh has slammed the Delhi family for taking to social media to narrate their ordeal about the brutal attack instead of calling the police for help. The tourists, hailing from Shivaji Shahadhara in New Delhi had checked in at the Spazio Leisure resort in Anjuna on March 5 when they were attacked with swords, belts, baseball bat and fist blows by goons.
Dissatisfied with a bailable offense registered against Roshan and some unknown assailants; the victims took to social media to narrate the incident and accused Goa of being an unsafe holiday hub. Amid allegations of belated action by police, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday claimed that the tourists provoked the situation, while quickly clarifying that it does not allow anyone to take law into their own hands.
On Tuesday, the DGP tweeted pointing at the 'uncivil' nature of the tourists to seek justice via social media.
“No doubt the fault of both sides as they say it takes two to tango. But the use of force that too a sharp-edged weapon amounts to excessive use of force amounting to crime. Taking to social media by tourists was unwarranted. He preferred social media over 112(police helpline). Uncivil way,” the DGP posted on his official Twitter handle, in response to The Goan’s news article about alleged misbehaviour by the tourists with the hotel employees.
Complainant Ashwani Chandrani alleged police nexus even as the department has suspended PSI Francisco Xavier and added Section 307 (attempted murder) against the accused. The original FIR was registered under sections 323 (causing hurt), 324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapons) and 504 (threatening) read with 34 (common intention) of IPC.
In one of the videos accessed by The Goan, the complainant and his family members are seen arguing with the accused waiter Roshan near the swimming pool. One of them almost charged at the waiter while another video shows the semi-covered male members of the victim's-family complaining to the resort employees against Roshan.
