The Director of Health Services has finally set in motion the process to recruit consultants, medical officers, nurses and anesthesia technicians to operate the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the South Goa district hospital, Margao.
The recruitment advertisement includes recruiting eight posts of consultants, 10 post of medical officers, one post of matron nursing, anesthesia technicians (six) and 20 staff nurses. All these posts will be filed up purely on contract basis for a period of one year,
The advertisement assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the affidavit filed by the Health Director before the High Court in the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai.
In the affidavit, the Health Director had stated that once the staff are engaged at the district hospital even on contract basis, till the regular posts are created and filled, the SGDH will be fully operational.
In fact, the Health Director had submitted before the High Court that the proposal for the creation of posts for the nine-beded ICU/CCU, High Dependence Unit, Step Down ICU, Blood Component separation for the South Goa district hospital is under consideration and pending with the government.
“As soon as the posts are created and the vacancies filled up on regular basis, all the major grievances of the petitioner as raised in the petition shall be fulfilled”, the Health Director stated in her affidavit.
