DHS plans to digitize patient records, go paperless

In an ambitious move, the Directorate of Health Services has proposed a plan to digitize records of patients and hospitals in the State, making it virtually paperless.

It proposes to use a cloud-based Health Management Information System (HMIS) to keep these records which will ensure quick and easy future access to them. 

DHS officials said the system will be developed under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) initiative of the Central government.

It aims to create an easy and quick access to patients and hospital records not only for health officials but also the public. 

Using the digital health ID -- Ayushman Bharat Health Account -- provided under the system, citizens too will get access to multiple digital health services. 

The plan is to execute it in a phased manner, the officials said, adding that the Out-Patient Department of the two district hospitals being taken up first.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had hinted at the digitization of health records during the recent monsoon session of the Goa legislative assembly.
