Goan diaspora in the UK honoured Vijai Sardesai as ‘Goencho Rakhondar’, or ‘Protector of Goa’, at their annual Easter Ball in Goa on March 31. Sardesai, the President of GFP, received the title in recognition of his dedication to safeguarding Goa’s identity, heritage, and values.
During his address, Sardesai spoke about the importance of preserving ‘Goemkarponn’, which he described as more than just an identity but a set of values rooted in humanity. He highlighted the challenges Goa faces from external influences that threaten its cultural fabric and advocated for a ‘Goans without borders’ movement to prioritise Goans in the state’s development.
