Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira has said that the government has found itself in a piquant situation on the finalization of the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) when discrepancies has been found in the plan.
The Minister pointed out that while the National Green Tribunal is pressing Goa to complete and finalize the plan, the few discrepancies that has come to light need to be rectified before the plan is finalized. “There seemed to be a tug of war and the government has found itself in a piquant situation”, he said.
He added: “After the government had given the approval for the CZMP, certain discrepancies had come to light. Accordingly, the government drew attention of the Union Ministry for Environment and Forests, which in turn have asked the NCSCM, Chennai to have a relook at the plan. Here is a situation, wherein on one side the NGT is pressing for completion of the CZMP, while on the other side we have found few discrepancies which need to be rectified before the plan is finalised”.
