Doctor held for sexual assault on nurse working at his hospital

MARGAO

The Cuncolim police has arrested Dr Samuel Aarawattigi, a resident of Benaulim in connection with the complaint of sexual assault on a 21-year old nurse working at the doctor’s hospital at Chinchinim.

The arrested doctor has been remanded to three days police custody by the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao for the purpose of further investigations.

A complaint to this effect was lodged by the victim’s mother, who alleged that on April 22 at around 10 pm, her daughter was taken by the accused to his residence at Benaulim on the pretext of house visit for treatment and allegedly sexually assaulted her without her consent.

She alleged in her complaint that her daughter, working as a nurse at Chinchinim, which is owned/run by the accused person, took undue advantage of his position and took her daughter to his residence at Benaulim on the pretext of house visit for treatment and forcefully had a sexual intercourse with her.

Police sources said the incident came to light after the victim girl allegedly consumed some pills and was admitted to a hospital. She is believed to have later narrated the incident to her parents, upon which a complaint was filed with the Cuncolim police.

Cuncolim PI Diego Gracias informed that the victim girl has been subjected to medical examination, adding that the police had arrested the accused on Friday and has since been remanded to three days police custody.
