St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar said he would sit in protest outside the Dy Town Planner's office in Panaji from Monday, until he is given an assurance on stopping mega projects in his constituency, mostly in Curca-Bambolim panchayat areas.
The MLA made the announcement during a candlelit protest organised on Saturday from Alto-Santa Cruz junction to Bambolim beach in protest against the mega projects in the area which he claimed, have been approved by the TCP without studying the carrying capacity of the village.
At the protest, hundreds of supporters from RGP and other like-minded individuals participated in the candlelit protest.
Along the protest march, MLA Borkar highlighted various projects which he said will spell doom for the locals of they are not immediately halted.
The MLA in particular pointed to a project which has been approved with 290 FAR and where various violations have taken place.
"If this project goes through, then this area will thirst for water. Further, the excavation done for the project has damaged the aquifers and despite no environment clearance for the project, the builder continues construction on the same," Borkar stated and informed that even his visit to the TCP failed to have any impact.
"This is the reason why I have decided to sit on an indefinite protest outside the Dy Town Planner's office from Monday," Borkar added and informed that the RGP party members will join him in the protest.
When questioned further, Borkar said that he will not withdraw the sit-in protest till the TCP officials or the minister visits him and assures him that mega projects in St Andre will be stopped.
"The last time I had done Pind Dhaan and ended the protest, but this time I am ready for a prolonged protest," he added.
Meanwhile, RGP President Manoj Parab sent a warning to the TCP minister not to take RGP threat lightly.
