In what will be good news to Goan motorists from Sattari taluka, the Maharashtra government has begun work to improve the Dodamarg-Poriem road which connects the two states.
The improved road, which is expected to be completed within a fortnight, will reduce the distance between Sattari and Dodamarg, Sawantwadi and Malvan in Maharashtra.
Motorists in Sattari had been demanding improvement of the Dodamarg-Poriem road, since it was a frequently used route to travel to Sawantwadi, Ratnagiri, Kudal, Kankavali and Malvan.
The stretch of road till the Goa border was in good condition but the portion of road after the border was in poor condition, with several potholes along the route and this had forced motorists in Sattari to travel via longer routes to reach their destinations in Maharashtra.
The Maharashtra government had finally decided to hotmix the Dodamarg-Poriem road and sources said about 70 percent of the roadwork has been completed.
Residents of Matne in Maharashtra have also expressed happiness with the roadwork in progress.
“Even though we live in Maharashtra, our relationship with Goa has been close and special for ages. We go to Goa for various reasons and this route had been an intimate link to Goa. With the Maharashtra government working to improve this road, relations between Goa and Maharashtra will be stronger than before,” remarked a resident of Matne.
