It may have got an official correspondence from the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL), but the South Western Railways (SWR) is yet to implement double-tracking along the ‘Braganza Ghat’ section of the Londa-Vasco section as it is also waiting for clearances from the Ministry of Environment and Forests.
It may be recalled that Union Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar had tweeted in this regard stating that in its 60th meeting that NBWL has recommended the proposal for Tinaighat-Castlerock-Caranzol Railway doubling of SWR, Karnataka with certain mitigation measures as advised by the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun.
When asked about further implementation of the recommendation by NBWL, SWR officials said that they haven’t received any communication in this regard.
“We haven’t received the written communication/approval in this regard. There is an established procedure for the sanction of projects and the same will be followed,” SWR DGM & Chief PRO E Vijaya told The Goan.
The double-tracking from Tinaighat-Caranzol section would be implemented only after all the required clearances including from the forests department etc. are obtained,” Vijaya said.
