Emergency meet to discuss stinking issue deferred

MARGAO

The emergency caused after the collapse of the portion of the Sonsodo waste treatment plant wall ought to have called for urgent measures from the Margao Municipal Council and the City Fathers to handle the emerging crisis head-on.

Sadly, the emergency meeting of the Council mooted on Saturday, the day when the plant wall collapsed, did not materialize on Monday given the swearing-in of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and his Cabinet Ministers at the Shyama Prasad Mukerjee stadium.

Take note, the emergency meeting is unlikely to take place on Tuesday as well because of the scheduled Zambaulim Gulal.

Margao Municipal Chairperson Lyndon Pereira informed that the emergency meeting scheduled on Monday will finally take place on Wednesday because of the Chief Minister’s swearing-in programme on Monday and the Zambaulim Gulal on Tuesday.

“A couple of City Fathers requested me not to hold the emergency meeting on Monday since they will be headed to the Shyama Prasad Mukerjee stadium on Monday and head to Zambaulim to partake in the Gulal festivities on Tuesday”, he said.

The emergency meeting may now take place only later this week.
