PANAJI: Agitated residents of Anjuna and Vagator protested at the Public Works Department (PWD) office demanding an immediate solution to the four-month-long water shortage.
They gheraod the concerned officials carrying buckets to the office.
The villagers alleged that since June, their taps have run dry despite heavy rains and that many residents now rely on natural water sources like wells or water tankers.
With acute shortage of drinking water also a major concern, protesters pointed out that the growing number of new commercial establishments has added to water scarcity. They alleged illegal water connection to some of these buildings while regular villagers are left out despite all permissions in place.
Local panchayat members joined the locals, warning to escalate the protest against the PWD if the issue is not resolved soon.
