Harvalem VP to go for polls on October 20

The Goa State Election Commission today announced the election schedule for the Harvalem village panchayat, with polling being scheduled on October 20.


The schedule for the election has been outlined, starting with the receipt of nominations from October 1 to October 9. Scrutiny of the nominations will take place on October 10, followed by the withdrawal of candidature, if any, on October 11. 


The counting will take place on October 21. 


The elections to VP were long overdue and that the government had appointed an Administrator to look into the functioning of the panchayat. 


With election scheduled being announced model code of conduct comes into force in the village panchayat. 


Voting will be conducted via ballot from 8 am to 5 pm.


 Candidates in the election are subject to an expenditure limit of ₹40,000 per ward. The Commission has appointed General Observers and Expenditure Observers, along with flying squads, to monitor the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct. 


The Code, which took effect on September 17, will remain in force throughout the election period.


Three of the five wards are unreserved, while two”Ward IV and Ward V”would be reserved for women candidates.


A total of 2,091 registered voters that includes 1,037 male and 1,054 female voters.

VASCO: Sancoale Deputy Sarpanch Girish Pillai tendered his resignation on Monday.
