Rice and wheat are distributed to people at the Fair Price Shops (FPS) across the State from the 1st to the 21st of every month.
The Priority Card Holders (PHH), who are very few in number, are eligible for one kg sugar at Rs 1.
People with Above Poverty Line (APL) cards, consisting of the majority of ration cardholders are eligible for a fixed amount of rice and wheat. At present, the ration quota is 12 kg of rice at Rs 12.50 per kg and 8 kg of wheat at Rs 10 per kg.
Priority House Holds (PHH) cardholders get 35 kg of rice per card at Rs 3 per kg and Annapurna Antyojay Yojana (AAY) cardholders get 5 kg of rice per person at Rs 3 per kg.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Jana Anna Yojana (PMJAY), the AAY and PHH cardholders get 5 kg of rice free per person (This was given during the Covid pandemic).
The FPS owner has to submit details of stock received and the amount of foodgrain they have distributed in the month from the 1st to 21st of the month to the district civil supply’s office. This has to be done from the 22nd till the end of the month.
Based on the report, the civil supply inspector at the district office will issue a challan for the quantity to be given to the FPS. The department has its own formula to allot quota to the FPSs.
The FPS owner then pays the money to the department and on showing the receipt, the godown incharge issues the stock to the FPS.
When the stock arrives in the FPS, it is entered into the POS machine and distribution of rations starts from the 1st of the month.
