Officials of the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) on Monday conducted an inspection drive at the sweet marts in Salcete in view of the upcoming festive season to check any non-compliance at food manufacturing units.
The team ordered the closure of a sweet mart at Cuncolim after it was found that it was operating sans the mandatory FSSAI guidelines. The team has also collected samples of sweets, including farsan, from the marts and sent them to the FDA laboratory for analysis.
One of the premises at Panzarconi-Cuncolim was found operating without a valid FSSAI licence and in unhygienic conditions. A stock of goods worth Rs 21,700 which was without proper purchase bill and proper label declaration as required under FSSAI guidelines was destroyed.
Another manufacturing unit was inspected and was found operating under unhygienic conditions and was directed to comply with the deficiencies. Six boxes of coconut laddoos having no proper FSSAI declaration worth Rs 1,080 were found and later destroyed.
Officials who participated in the drive were designated officer Sanjyot Kudalkar, Sr Food safety officer Priya Desai, Food Safety officers Amit Mandrekar, Sneha S Naik, Abhishek Naik, Keyne Carvalho, sampling attendants Ram Gaonkar and Sainath Mandrekar and MTS Gauresh Gaonkar.
