Finance Commission team arrives for talks on State's proposals

The three-member 16th Finance Commission under the chairmanship of  Arvind Panagariya on Wednesday arrived in Goa for consultation with the State government and stakeholders including MLAs.

Panagariya along with members Ajay Narayan Jha and Manoj Panda will be in the State till January 10.

The Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told media persons that State is ready with its proposal to be placed before the Commission.  

As reported earlier, the government will seek Rs 28,000cr financial package to further boost the development of the State, apart from seeking increase in States’ share of Central taxes from the existing 0.386 per cent to one per cent.

The government has laid major focus on green energy promotion and for which Rs 7,350 crore worth proposal is drafted.

As per the information provided by the Chief Minister, under green energy, State will seek funds to the tune of Rs 7,350 crore while another Rs 5,460 crore would requested for public works, Rs 4,160 crore for power infrastructure, Rs 3,401 crore for water resources and agriculture and another Rs 1,982 cr towards disaster management.

Under tourism, proposals worth Rs 1,693cr are drafted while for education it is Rs 1,536 crore. Another Rs 733cr would be sought towards waste management, Rs 631cr for health and Rs 379 for climate change initiatives.
