A house belonging to a decorator who supplied serial lights and sound system on rent in Assagao caught fire, resulting in a loss of Rs 2 lakh late Thursday evening.
Mapusa fire personnel informed that they received a call at around 8.30 pm about the fire incident at a house near the panchayat office in Assagao. The owner of the house Pradip Mandrekar and his family members were in the house when the fire incident was reported.
The fire reportedly started in the store room and spread to other areas. After receiving a call, the fire personnel from Mapusa fire station rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
Several LED serial lights, music and sound system and other household items were damaged in the incident causing a loss of around Rs 2 lakh. Firefighters claimed that they managed to save property worth Rs 5 lakh.
An official of the Mapusa fire station ruled out short-circuit as the cause of the fire and suspects that the fire may have started from somewhere inside the house. He said further investigations are on.
