Around 70 km of the 11KV high tension network will be taken underground in Aldona constituency which will give a big boost to quality supply and importantly bring down the perennial problem of power interruptions in the village.

The work of conversion of existing overhead 11 KV Aldona-I, Aldona-II, Bastora and Pomburpa feeders emanating from 33/11KV Nachinola sub-station to underground system has been tendered at a cost of around Rs 90 crore.

The underground cabling work project in Aldona has been bagged by Ashtech Industries Pvt Ltd.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant along with Power Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavlikar and local MLA Carlos Ferreira will be laying the foundation stone for the project on Saturday (November 4).

Besides Aldona, the villages of Bastora, Pomburpa and Ucassaim will also be covered in the underground power cabling work.

“While almost the entire Aldona constituency will be covered in the current underground cabling project, Moira and Nachinola will be left out as these two villages come under a different sub-division,” a senior engineer in the electricity department informed.

“But we will try to work a way out and include these two villages in the scope of the ongoing work,” he added.

Wherever possible the contractor will be using the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) technique to lay the cable to minimise road cutting while in rocky areas roads will be excavated. The contractor has been given a period of one year to complete the underground cabling work in Aldona.

The underground cabling of the high tension line will bring huge relief to interior villages of Aldona which have been facing constant power interruptions. The underground cabling will also eliminate the problem of cutting trees and branches hanging on HT lines particularly in the monsoon.

“It’s big work as we are laying the overhead 11 KV power lines underground in almost the entire Aldona. The work is expected to be completed in one year. Once the work is complete we can expect a stable and uninterrupted power supply in Aldona,” the senior engineer said.
