Five fishermen were rescued while two others swam ashore following two separate boat mishaps in the sea off Anjuna and Arambol.
In one incident, the engine of a fishing boat stalled and went completely out of service about 150 metres off the shore at Anjuna beach, putting the lives of all six fishermen onboard at risk.
Four of the fishermen panicked due to the situation at hand and were rescued by Drishti lifesavers. The other two survivors started to swim back to the shore.
Of the four survivors, two of them are from Himachal Pradesh, one is from Maharashtra and the other is from Jharkhand.
In another rescue operation during the day, a local fisherman was out at sea fishing about a kilometre off the shore at Arambol when he had a fall inside his boat and sustained a fracture.
Two Drishti lifesavers rescued the 35-year-old fisherman and gave him first aid. The fisherman was moved to Anjuna for medical aid.
This is the eighth incident this month where lifesavers have gone to the aid of fishermen in incidents involving in fishing boats.
