Five more Covid deaths, toll crosses 600-mark

Goa’s Covid-19 death toll crossed the 600-mark on Friday with five more succumbing to the infection. The infection tally presently stands at 43,416 of whom 2,405 are active cases.

Of the five deaths, four occurred at GMC in Bambolim and one at Hospicio Hospital in Margao. The deceased persons include a 36-year-old man from Quepem, a 72-year-old man from Vasco, a 77-year-old woman from Aldona, a 70 -year-old man from Bicholim and a 64-year-old man from Pernem.

It may be recalled that the Health Department recorded the first Covid-related mortality on June 22. Since then, a total of 602 have fallen prey to coronavirus. According to the records, a total of 44 Covid deaths occured in Goa between June and July, 150 in August and 234 in September. As compared with September, the numbers have fallen almost by half in October with 174 deaths being recorded till October 30.

Recovery rate continues to remain high in Goa. A total of 40,409 from the total 43,416 cases  have recovered so far and the recovery rate stands at 93.07 per cent.
