Former corporator of the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) Menino D’Cruz has alleged destruction of mangroves at Bhatlem-Panaji for the construction of a road.
"I was shocked to see that around 50-60 mangroves were razed for the construction of a road to make a way for a construction,” alleged D'Cruz.
“Three days ago, I complained to the fisheries department, Coastal Zone Management Authority, Goa Pollution Control Board, Forest, Town and Country Planning, PDA, Police and Collector, but till date except for the forest department, no one has taken cognisance of the complaint,” added D'Cruz.
D'Cruz said inaction by authorities had forced him to raise the issue through the media.
“A person from the forest department visited the site, did the panchanama and went. I don't think he has taken any action,” said D'Cruz, while appealing to environment lovers and NGOs to take up the issue.
