After being held up for four years, the work on the nullah at Goa Velha, behind the St Andrew’s Church, will be finally taken up as the corner stone for the same was laid on Wednesday.
The corner stone was laid at the hands of St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar in the presence of Goa Velha sarpanch Emilia Caidao, panchas Agnelo Fernandes, Iyno de Souza, Goa Velha parish priest Fr Antonio Albuquerque and others.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Borkar acknowledged the efforts taken by the previous panch as well as the current panch in doing the documentation for the work. “Also, special mention has to be made of the Salkar and the Rego families for giving NOC to undertake the work,” Borkar stated while stating that the WRD officials too played an important role in getting the work approved.
“Once completed, it will help the people residing nearby as well as the church authorities as the rainwater would be diverted through the nullah,” the MLA said.
Local panch Fernandes said that it took a long time for the work to be approved. “Though my voters did not say anything, I myself was feeling guilty that it was taking such a long time for the clearance of the file,” Fernandes pointed out.
Sarpanch Emilia Caidao, panch Iyno de Souza and Fr Antonio Albuquerque also spoke on the occasion.
