Full staff strength for Siolim PHC in 3 months: Minister

MAPUSA

Stating that the government will rework the deployment of staff at various health centres, Health Minister, Vishwajit Rane on Wednesday assured to provide full staff strength at Siolim Primary Health Centre within the next three months.

Rane also assured to look into the proposal of upgrading the Siolim PHC into a community health centre.

“We have been having problems in deploying staff especially when there are requests for transfers to specific areas. But we will soon rework the re-deployment schedule and fill vacant posts on priority. I will try to give full staff to Siolim PHC in the next three months,” Rane said.

The Health Minister was responding to a query raised by Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo on staff crunch faced by the Siolim PHC.

Lobo said that Siolim PHC did not have a full-time Medical Officer while several other staff of the PHC were deployed to other areas putting pressure on the skeletal existing staff.

She said the existing staff could not attend to people due to shortage of staff at the centre.

“Siolim PHC caters to seven villages. Also, for several tourists the PHC is a one stop medical succour,” Lobo said, while requesting the government to urgently provide more staff at the PHC.

She also said that the work on the new extension building at the PHC was completed almost around four years back but it was not put to use so far.

“When I went to inspect the extension building sometime back, I found that the false ceiling of one of the rooms had fallen down. This is the sorry state of affairs at the PHC,” Lobo said.

The Health Minister informed that infrastructure issues were looked after by the PWD.
