Congress' Aldona MLA, Carlos Ferreira Alvares on Wednesday demanded that criminal cases be filed against two candidates who despite failing the physical tests answered the written tests and got through the PSI recruitment process which must be investigated and the truth of the fraud found.
Speaking in the Goa legislative assembly on the demands for grants pertaining to the home department, Alvares said it is shocking that such crooked-minded people are gaining entry into the police force which itself is charged with the responsibility of law and order.
"If you arrest them and investigate, I am sure the beans will be spilt," Alvares said, adding that it is important that higher officials responsible for the fraud including the political godfathers need to be exposed and dealt with.
The officers who conducted the physical tests and produced the false reports to enable these two candidates to go through should also be booked and dealt with, Alvares said.
The Aldona MLA also raised several issues pertaining to facilities for personnel of the police department, especially the lower rung and members of the constabulary who work in trying and difficult physical conditions.
Speaking on the demands for grants pertaining to the ports department, Alvares warned the overwhelming powers with the Mormugao Ports Authority over vast geographical jurisdiction and also to the Centre-controlled inland waterways authority will make the State entirely powerless.
Even the tradition of setting up shacks on Goa's beaches will be controlled by these authorities, he said and urged the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to give a serious thought to the issue.
