Garbage contract, daily wage staff discussed at PMC meet

PONDA

Issues pertaining to the garbage contract and contract and daily wage workers were discussed at the meeting of the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) on Tuesday.

During the meeting, which was chaired by PMC Chairperson Anand Naik, a proposal was made to extend the contract of the garbage contractor by a few months.

Councillors Vishwanath Dalvi, Shaunak Borkar and others opposed the extension and insisted that a new tender be floated and a decision be taken after completing administrative formalities.

PMC Chairperson Anand Naik explained that the contract of the present contractor ends on August 31, and it would take time to float a new tender and appoint a new contractor. Hence, the present contractor be allowed to collect the garbage for some more time.

Venkatesh Naik and others raised a question regarding contract and daily wage workers. As per the order issued by the government, the PMC will send the government a list of those employees who have served for at least seven years.

Some councillors insisted that the list should have been placed before the council meeting before sending it to the government. After discussion it was decided that the list should be placed in the next meeting and it should be sent only after discussions.

The PMC also decided to build a community hall at Khadpabandh and to continue the work of the Golden Jubilee building after renewal of documents.

The council also decided to shift vendors doing business in the dilapidated building of the PMC to a new building after Ganesh Chaturthi.
