In a surprising turn of events, residents relying on LPG gas for cooking faced a rude shock as routine gas refills were denied due to purported quota exhaustion, leaving many scrambling for explanations and solutions.
A resident of Assagao, Owen Braganza was taken aback when his scheduled gas cylinder refill was not delivered as expected.
Upon inquiry at Goa Gas Service, the local Bharat Gas dealer in Mapusa, Braganza was informed that he had exceeded his annual quota for refills.
Despite following the standard booking procedure, Braganza found himself without a refill and was directed to submit an additional application for consideration.
Expressing confusion and concern, the Assagao resident sought clarity on the rule governing this unexpected requirement.
However, he was met with vague responses from the showroom staff, who assured him that the details would be provided at a later date.
Faced with an urgent need for a refill, Braganza reluctantly submitted the application as instructed.
However, Braganza recorded his complaint in the LPG dealer's complaint book, highlighting the lack of transparency and the inconvenience caused by the sudden change in procedure.
According to Bharat Gas officials, consumers are allowed to apply for additional refills beyond their quota to ensure genuine requests and prevent black market activities.
The application process involves uploading the request into the system for further processing.
However, concerns have been raised regarding the transparency of this process, with allegations of potential exploitation by delivery personnel.
The coordinator of GOACAN, Roland Martins emphasized the need for transparency to prevent consumer exploitation and ensure fair practices in gas distribution.
"The solution appears simple but can also be tricky, which gives an opportunity to extract an additional charge by the delivery man," remarked Martins, highlighting the potential pitfalls in the current system.
As residents await resolution to their refill woes, the incident underscores the importance of transparent and accountable processes in ensuring essential services reach consumers without unnecessary hurdles or exploitation.
