The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has issued a show-cause notice to Diana Buildwell Private Limited with respect to alleged illegal constructions carried out on Vagator beach.
The Authority has called upon the company to explain why the structures should not be ordered to be demolished and the land restored to its original condition.
In its directive, the GCZMA has also restrained the company from undertaking any civil works of whatsoever nature at the site until further orders.
The action comes in response to a complaint lodged by local residents Francisco Drago, Rajendra Gaonkar and Desmond Alvares, as well as the Vagator-Anjuna Caisua Forum, affiliated to St Anthony Church, Vagator.
The complaint pertained to construction activities in survey numbers 340/1m, 597/1-A, 339/1, 339/2, 339/3 and 339/4 in Anjuna.
Following the complaint, officials of the coastal body carried out a site inspection and reported the existence of an access road leading to the beach and to survey no. 354/1, laid with aggregates and extending towards a natural drain (nullah).
The inspection further recorded the construction of a rubble protection wall along the access, as well as a metal bridge across the Nullah to provide entry to the property.
The side walls of the Nullah directly beneath the bridge were also found to be built with loose rubble stones.
“All proposed construction, re-construction, development, repair and other permissible activities within 100 metres of rivers and 500 metres of the sea require the prior approval of the GCZMA under the Coastal Regulation Zone Notification, 2011,” said Sachin Desai, Member Secretary of the GCZMA.
He further observed that the activities in question appeared to have been carried out without the mandatory approval of the GCZMA, in violation of coastal zone regulations, and therefore the company has been directed to show cause.
