The State-owned Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) has embarked on the ambitious plan to set up a two tonnes per hour biomass briquette plant at Saligao.
The agency has called for technical and financial bids to set up the plant, an investment it estimates to be approximately Rs 1.5 crore.
The project is to be developed by a private party on a design, build, operate, finance, and transfer basis for a period of years.
The winning bidder will have to set up the 2,000 kg/hour biomass briquette plant which will be based on tree waste, tender coconut waste, and coconut leaves waste.
According to the bid documents, the project proponents should install a grid-connected solar power facility atop a shed where briquettes will be produced by compressing any biomass material like wood, leaves and sawdust.
The briquettes so produced is a substitute fuel for oil and coal.
