The Goyche Fudle Pilgi Khatir, has urged the Director of Panchayats to call upon all Block Development officers to instruct the panchayats to conduct special gram sabhas to discuss and give suggestions on the draft Agriculture Policy.
In a memorandum submitted to the Panchayat Director, the NGO has maintained that if ordinary gram sabhas are scheduled to be held in the coming weeks, then a point in the agenda be added to discuss draft Agriculture Policy.
Suggestions and resolutions accordingly will be generated for records of all, the NGO added. GFPK president Jack Mascarenhas said today’s meeting with the Director of Panchayats was fruitful as he had agreed to take the required actions to ensure that BDOs arrange special gram sabhas in all the panchayats to discuss the policy.
The team, consisting of Govind Shirodkar, Orlando, Afonso and Constancio hoped this would lead to wide involvement of the people in developing the policy.
He pointed out that the Panchayat Director was requested to call upon the BDOs to instruct the panchayats to conduct the gram sabhas in view of the Directorate of Agriculture extending the last date till 15th September 2023, to receive suggestions for formulating the Draft Agriculture Policy for Goa, and in the interest of all the villages of Goa that will be directly impacted by this Policy.
“This will enable wide range participation and awareness on an issue which affects each and every household in Goa, whether it’s a farmers house or not, because surely there has to be food in everyone’s plate. We consider your action will create a positive interest and build trust of the people in the policy making and good governance,” he added.
