Give tickets to honest workers, Vaz tells Congress leadership

MARGAO

Even as the Congress leadership is bracing to hold a public meeting at Curtorim later this week, Congress veteran and a strong ticket aspirant Joseph Vaz has cautioned the leadership that the party should avoid family raj as well as keep distance from candidates with criminal background and dictatorial attitude and self-centred leaders for the party ticket.
In his representation to the party leaders, Vaz said Congress Party leadership should not succumb to the flattery and pressure of some selfish leaders within the party while selecting candidates for forthcoming Assembly election 2022.
“Give tickets to sincere and honest reliable candidates who will remain and respect the people mandate and party leadership. Try to give representation to weaker section leaders by supporting him/her to win the seats," he said.
Vaz urged the leadership to give representation to different village leaders on rotation basis and not to forget to choose different villages for Congress candidates and ensure that everyone and every section gets representation on rotation basis every after 5 years, akin to the Kerala module,
Vaz, who has been recently elected unopposed to the Tenant (Farmers) Association of Vodlim Ordh, Ilhas de Rachol, has laid a strong claim for the party ticket after the exit of Reginaldo Lourenco and Moreno Rebello.
Though his name did not figure in the list of candidates forwarded to the Curtorim block after he had proposed the name of Camurlim Sarpanch Basil Fernandes, Vaz is back in action for the ticket following the exit of Reginaldo and Moreno from the party.
Meanwhile, the Congress party will hold its rescheduled public meet at Curtorim after the exit of MLA Reginaldo Lourenco. The public meeting, which was twice postponed, is now rescheduled for December 29 evening.
While the names of Joseph Vaz, Basil Fernandes and block president Milagres Fernandes is doing the rounds in Congress circles as the aspirants for the party ticket, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha, sources said is not averse in the party nominating his son Shalom for the Curtorim seat in the ensuing polls.
