The displaced GMC kiosk owners have fallen to the bait yet again as they have decided not to hold chain hunger strike from Monday after assurance by St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes.
It may be recalled that the kiosk owners initially started their protest on October 18 by protesting outside St Cruz MLA's residence which they later moved outside GMC complex-Bambolim.
However, the kiosk owners decided to suspend their agitation on October 26 when MLA Fernandes assured that the work on the rehabilitation of kiosk owners would begin by November 10, but with a condition that they would go on chain hunger strike if work does not start by the given date.
Later, with no sign of work starting the kiosk owners threatened to begin chain hunger strike from Monday as they were not able to get proof of work order either from the MLA or the PWD executive engineer concerned.
But, a kiosk owner informed that they have now decided not to go on chain hunger strike from Monday as St Cruz MLA Fernandes has assured them that he would hold parleys with officers concerned and see to it that the work begins on Monday.
“If the work does not begin on Monday he has told us to go ahead with the strike. We will wait for one more day and chalk out our future course of action,” Pereira informed the reporters after offering prayers at the temple and cross outside the GMC complex.
“We have offered prayers at the temple and the cross to clear all the hurdles which are coming in the way of the rehabilitation. We have also prayed to give proper guidance to people who are creating hurdles, if any,” he added.
