Condemning the action of some ‘doctors’ who try to take advantage of gullible patients, Vice President of the Goa Medical Council, Dr Dhanesh Volvoikar has sought action against such ‘doctors’ who indulge in unethical practices.
Dr Volvoikar pointed to some flyers (advertisement) which were circulating in Porvorim, where two outstation doctors promised 100 per cent cure from diabetes.
“Goa cannot be a blind spectator to these unethical and not permissible issues. Sending this information to you for necessary action. Kindly stop this menace,” Dr Volvoikar said in a complaint to the Director of Health Service, tagging the controversial flyer in his complaint.
He also wrote to the Goa Medical Council to look into the matter demanding swift and strong action so that a message goes out to all such irresponsible people in the medical fraternity.
Pointing to several ethical malpractices in the flyer, Dr Volvoikar said no doctors are allowed to display their photos which were embossed on the flyer. He said the registration numbers of the doctors were also not made available on the flyer.
“No doctors can promise 100 per cent cure of a disease which was advertised in the flyer,” he said.
He also said that before organising any medical clinics, the doctors should seek permission from the Director of Health Service.
“Such medical camps/clinics have become a matter of routine which should be stopped once for all. I had raised these issues in the past but the Goa Medical Council has failed to take any action,” Dr Volvoikar lamented.
Former Bardez Indian Medical Association (IMA) President Dr Sandeep Naik also expressed his outrage over the incident.
