The Goa Police has geared up to roll out an improved feedback mechanism for citizens visiting police stations as the force is also upgrading mechanisms to tackle cybercrime and ensure traffic management.
Director General of Police (DGP) Alok Kumar said that the upgraded QR-code system will be introduced in January 2025.
“We provide policing services to the public and we want to enhance their experience. While a feedback mechanism already exists, we are upgrading it to a QR-based feedback system. We are working in collaboration with the Government of India agency. It will be launched in January 2025, which will be like a New Year gift for the public,” Kumar said during an interview on Head On on Prudent Media on Monday.
The DGP also spoke about the department’s priorities, especially in tackling emerging cybercrime challenges. “Cybercrime is a growing concern, not just in Goa but across society. Our goal is to protect people (from fraud and cheating.) We have strengthened the Cybercrime Police Station and made several arrests, including of fraudsters involved in financial scams. Goa ranks among the top states in terms of the percentage of the lien amounts in such cases,” he stated.
Kumar revealed that the State has surpassed Punjab and Haryana in the past 3-4 months. “Cybercrime is a long battle and we are committed to further strengthening our efforts. It remains my top priority,” he said.
On traffic management, Kumar identified road accidents as another major challenge in Goa. “Accidents are a critical issue involving multiple stakeholders including the Transport Department, Public Works Department and, most importantly, citizens among others. Often, we overlook the role of citizens who play a crucial role in road safety,” he said adding that they aim to reduce and prevent fatalities.
“We have set clear targets. In one traffic circle, we have implemented comprehensive security and traffic plans, which will be fully operational by 2025. Moreover, a traffic congestion and monitoring centre is already functional in the Traffic Department. They also handle distress calls round the clock,” the DGP said.
