Goan youth arrested for raping woman in Assagao

MAPUSA
Anjuna Police arrested a 26-year-old Goan youth for allegedly raping a woman by barging into her house a little after midnight in Assagao.

The victim, who hails from Bihar, was sleeping in her house along with her two kids when the reprehensible incident took place.

Based on the description provided by the victim, Anjuna Police zeroed in on the suspect and arrested the accused, Pratamesh Uday Naik, who is the victim’s neighbour.

He is a resident of Sokoilo-Vaddo, Assagao and runs a water tanker business in the coastal belt.

Incidentally, the accused was earlier arrested in another criminal case for rioting and attempt to murder.

Police investigations have revealed that the accused had downed a beer at around 11 pm on Tuesday and later watched a porn film before committing the dastardly act at around 1.30 am Wednesday.

It may be recalled that the accused entered into the house while the 22-year-old victim was sleeping with her kids and threatened to kill her and sexually assaulted her.

The woman along with her husband and two children were staying in a property in Assagao as caretakers. The owner of the property had another site in Arpora.

On that fateful night, the woman and two kids remained alone in the house as her husband had to supervise the Arpora site whose security guard had taken a day off.

Police have registered an offence under Section 376 (rape) and Section 506 (intimidation) of IPC against the accused.

LPSI Sneha Sawal and PSI Mahesh Kerkar are investigating in the matter.
