Goan YouTuber’s car damaged in attack

PANAJI

Unknown miscreants damaged the car of popular YouTuber and theatre artiste Rajdeep Naik hours after he uploaded on Sunday a video critical of a government scheme to provide pandemic-hit artistes with a one-time grant-in-aid of Rs 10,000.

The incident evoked sharp reactions from politicos and political parties who blamed the BJP-led government for allegedly allowing critics to be targeted.

Rajdeep, whose 'Hello Vasanti' videos enthrall Goan audiences with its satire mostly on current affairs and social issues, had on Sunday morning uploaded a new video in which he asked the government not to mock artistes with the meagre Rs 10,000 one-time payment.

The incident in which his car was damaged occurred hours later.

The Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) condemned the incident.

GPCC chief Girish Chodankar said: "Contribution of Artist Community must be respected by all. The Indian National Congress strongly condemns the attack on car of renowned actor Rajdeep Naik. Goa Police must act and nab culprits."

AAP State Convenor Rahul Mhambre also condemned the incident.

"Attack on car of theatre artist Rajdeep Naik is shameful and cowardly.

It's now revealing that only goondagiri will be adopted by BJP to silence their opponents and critics.

If criticism cannot be tolerated then there is no space for democracy.

Stop the tyranny," Mhambre tweeted.
