MAPUSA

The Department of Tourism on Friday constituted a flying squad to monitor and take action against illegal activities taking place on the beaches and at tourist places of North Goa.

The squad comprising two officers each will conduct surveillance of Calangute-Baga-Candolim beach area and tourist places located in North Goa during the weekends.

“The flying squad shall keep a check on illegalities and stop any illegalities detected in areas under their jurisdiction by preparing proper panchanama, report etc and submit it to the office for necessary action. The squad will conduct surveillance, monitor and take prompt action in tourist places of North Goa,” said Nikhil Desai, Director of Tourism.

Desai in his order said that the tourism department monitors and executes inspection of shack/confiscation of illegal materials on the beaches, the placement of illegal deck-beds, chairs/tables/umbrellas on the beaches which cause inconvenience to the smooth movement of public and tourists.

He also said that the department had recently declared several illegal activities such as cooking and consuming liquor in the open, driving on beaches, touting/selling of cruise boat tickets/any other tickets of tourist activities in the open from places other than from the authorised ticketing counters/offices etc as nuisance and therefore there was a need to deploy staff in the field to take action against such illegalities.

The flying squad will be allotted vehicles and function from the Tourism Information Centre at Calangute Residency.

The squad will operate for three days in a week from Fridays to Sundays in the evenings from 2 pm to 10 pm.
