In a bid to ready the student community for the job market, the Goa government is introducing a voluntary module of upskilling parallel to regular academics in higher educational institutions and has signed MoUs with four skilling startups.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the move is aimed at equipping youth with job oriented skills through training free of cost.
The Goa State Higher Education Council and Directorate of Higher Education has signed the MoUs with Newton School, Unlu, ENTRI and Navgurukul.
Each of these skilling start-ups will be engaged in imparting courses in job-oriented skills including programming, graphic design, creative writing, acting (dramatics), music, film making, digital marketing and several other niche areas.
The Chief Minister also said that training centres will also be set up in due course and in the meanwhile online courses will be offered.
Once the centres are set up, registration for these courses will be started, Sawant said, adding that the skilling startups will provide standard programs and Goan youth will get "free access" to these.
Sawant said, this will help create a talent pool in Goa and make the State attractive to big companies, especially from the IT sector, to invest.
In yet another initiative, a circular has been issued to faculty across subjects from Goa's higher education ecosystem, to partner with the government on an honorary basis and contribute in providing inputs on upskilling the students and creating employment opportunities.
