Trinamool Congress’ ‘Griha Laxmi’ scheme which was launched on December 11 is helping the party soar popularity charts, and over 5% of households in Goa have registered within the first 48 hours.

In a massive outreach on Thursday in Porvorim, TMC leaders Priya Rathod, Soccour Seby Menezes, Shankar Phadte and Wilbur Ticlo went door-to-door explaining the benefits of the initiative, the registration process and how the scheme will help in reviving the Goan economy and give much needed financial independence to women, the party stated in a press release.

The flagship scheme announced by TMC assures guaranteed income support of Rs 5,000 every month (Rs 60,000 annually) to one woman in each household. It has been curated keeping in mind the heavy losses that the Goan economy suffered due to the shutting down of the tourism sector amid the Covid outbreak.

The scheme is universal and aims to benefit each of the 3.5 lakh households across the State irrespective of religion, caste, class, or income bracket, the release added.

Priya Rathod said, "There is a massive response from the women in the area who feel this scheme will ensure their empowerment at a time when they are finding it difficult to run their house due to inflation."

In Porvorim, people could be seen lined up enthusiastically at kiosks that were set up to help them with the registration process.

Sarita Naik, a housewife who got herself registered at the Porvorim market said, "Many political parties promise a lot of things, but this is the first time that we are getting a guarantee in the form of these cards."

To avail of the benefits of the Griha Laxmi scheme, all that one needs to do is visit the official website https://grihalaxmicard.in/ and enter the 10-digit mobile number. After clicking on the registration bar, the One Time Password (OTP) will be received. Verify the password and fill in all the relevant details. One can then download the Griha Laxmi card within seconds, the release stated.
