Noted literateur Damodar Mauzo, who was recently conferred the country's highest literary award, Jnanpith award, was on Thursday felicitated at the Raj Bhavan where a Coffee Table book capturing Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai's 'Thirty Days of Mission Humanity' was also released.Pillai felicitated Mauzo for winning the Jnanpith award 2021. The governor also felicitated Rear Admiral Philipose George Pynumootil, Flag Officer Commanding, Goa Area (FOGA) who was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal by the President of India for his dedicated service to the nation.
The Coffee Table book released at the programme at Raj Bhavan captures 30 days of programmes, visits and activities of Pillai between October 8 and November 7 this year.
Both Mauzo and Pynumootil complimented the Governor for his humanitarian work.
Retd Supreme Court Judge, Cyriac Joseph, who was the keynote speaker underscored the importance of every citizen being a "good human being". He said, the work undertaken by Pillai reflected this virtue.
Jusitce Joseph touched on the Constitutional principles of secularism and democracy, calling for respect for all religions living by the principle 'live and help live'.
The Governor in his address called for creative writers and thinkers to bring about immense change in society through motivation and guidance. He also recalled the struggle of the people of Bangladesh for independence and its formation in 1971 following the war which India won.
