GSPC warns medical stores against illegal discount ads on drugs

PANAJI

Coming down heavily on medical stores indulging in illegal practices, the Goa State Pharmacy Council (GSPC) has warned to suspend or cancel the registration of such pharmacists who were found advertising discounts on medicines through signboards or social media.

“Council has received complaints that some of the owners of medical stores put boards at conspicuous place/s at their premises and also through social media to offer discounts to attract consumers/patients for purchase of medicines from them,” said GSPC in a press statement.

The council has resolved to take strict action and urged stakeholders to refrain from engaging in these unethical practices.

The council pointed out that such practice violates the Pharmacy Practice Regulations 2015 and the Pharmacy Act 1948, and pharmacists failing to comply could face suspension or cancellation of their registration.

The GSPC also highlighted that such promotions lead to unhealthy competition among medical stores.

Meanwhile, the Goa Medical College has made a token number system for OPD patients visiting the Super Specialty Block operational through the Queue Management System (QMS).

As per the circular issued, the token numbers are to be issued at 8 am on all OPD days. Following this the patients will be registered at the respective OPD registration counters, stated the circular issued in this regards by GMC. “This is as per the OPD registration timing followed at Goa Medical College & Hospital,” the circular adds.
