Zero tolerance for lawlessness: DGP issues stern warning

PANAJI

With incidents of tourists taking the law into their own hands on the rise, the recent case in Sangolda where two tourists assaulted a local driver has drawn strong condemnation from Director General of Police (DGP) Alok Kumar.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the launch of the Swastha Police Sashakth Police campaign on Tuesday, Kumar issued a stern warning against anyone engaging in such lawlessness.

“There is zero tolerance for lawlessness. Anyone, whether a tourist or a local, taking the law into their own hands has to face action. We will not tolerate such behaviour. Goa has an image of being a peaceful State, and everyone must act responsibly. We urge tourists to enjoy their time here but not create disturbances. Stakeholders, too, must act responsibly,” he said.

The DGP further stated that the police took immediate and strict action in recent cases involving tourists, including the Sangolda assault.

He further assured that the police have implemented a robust patrolling system across Goa including the coastal belt to maintain law and order.

“We place additional nakabandi (checkpoints) at night. In case of any incident, the police respond quickly, register FIRs under appropriate sections and make immediate arrests,” he added.
