GSPCB will shut Cutbona jetty if key issues are ignored: Min

MARGAO
Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira on Friday warned that the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) would seal the Cutbona fishing jetty if sanitation, hygiene and cleanliness are ignored at the jetty in the future.

The Minister further urged the boat owners operating at the jetty to unite and approach the government if they want to take over the management of the jetty.

After a review meeting of the situation at the Cutbona fishing jetty with a delegation of boat owners under the banner of Cutbona Boat Owners, the Environment Minister said that things have almost fallen in place, adding that the authorities are on the job to fix the remaining issues, including illumination.

He complimented the boat owners for extending their wholehearted cooperation to put the things in place at the jetty after the place was hit by dengue and cholera. Sequeira, however, warned that the GSPCB may shut down the jetty if issues concerning hygiene and sanitation are not addressed.

Meanwhile, Sequeira reviewed the issue of sewerage disposal plaguing the South Goa Collectorate building and the SGPDA retail market. He has told the consultant to prepare estimates for connecting the Collectorate building and the SGPDA retail market to the underground sewerage line.

“We have set in motion the process to resolve the sewage issue plaguing the SGPDA market and the Collectorate building. The proposal to connect the two buildings to the sewerage project will soon be put in motion,” he said.
