Guirdolim seeks to bar construction on sloping land

MARGAO

The Guirdolim gram sabha on Sunday adopted a resolution to bar construction activity on sloping land in the village belonging to the local Comunidade

The meeting chaired by Sarpanch Sonia Fernandes adopted the resolution as per the request made by the gram sabha members and the same will be sent to the Town and Country Planning department for further action.

The Sarpanch told the media that the panchayat was in receipt of an application from the villagers and voters of Guirdolim with a request to declare the areas of three survey nos as no development zone.

She said the villagers had contended that as the slope of the hillock is very steep, any construction allowed on these hillocks will destroy the land below.

They had further pointed out that these hillocks were used as grazing grounds in olden days  and have to be maintained as it is, she said, adding that the gram sabha adopted the resolution to request the TCP to declare the three hillocks as no development zones.
