Harbour police seizes extracted sand, canoe at Curchorem

Harbour police on Tuesday carried out a raid at Curchorem and seized extracted sand and a canoe all worth Rs 6.8 lakhs from Curchorem.

According to sources, the sand was being extracted without necessary approvals and permissions prompting the coastal police to act on the incident.

"We seized illegally extracted sand and an unregistered canoe along with other property worth Rs 6.80 lakh from Curchorem. A complaint has also been filed against unknown accused of extracting around 17 to 20 cubic metre of sand worth around Rs 80,000 from a tributary of river Zuari at Curchorem," said a source.

Further investigation is being carried out.
